Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the beignets from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. While still warm, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
