Southern Baked Mac and Cheese

A rich and creamy Southern baked mac and cheese dish, featuring turkey bacon and chicken ham for added flavor.

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup chicken ham, diced
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until smooth.
  4. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Combine cooked macaroni, turkey bacon, and chicken ham in a large mixing bowl. Pour cheese sauce over the pasta and mix until well combined.
  7. Transfer to a greased baking dish and sprinkle additional cheese on top if desired.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add jalapeños or cayenne pepper.
  • Feel free to mix different types of cheese for a unique flavor.
